Weight Loss Success May Depend on Healthy Feet

Is foot pain keeping you from staying on track with that new years resolution?  An estimated 70 million overweight Americans are trapped in a similar conundrum. Being overweight aggravates foot problems. Sore feet make it impossible to enjoy exercise. Without exercise, weight increases which can lead to the progression of diabetes, heart disease and other serious health threats.

There is no reason foot or ankle pain should stop you from exercising, and the first step toward breaking that vicious cycle is to have the problem evaluated by a foot and ankle specialist.

Many causes of foot pain can be relieved non-surgically through stretching exercises, orthotics, or athletic shoes with good shock absorption and correct support.  If a bunion, heel pain or some other condition requires surgery, it is still possible to exercise during recovery while doing non-weight-bearing activities such as riding a stationary bike, swimming, or certain types of weight training.

A thorough physical examination is recommended before beginning an exercise program.  Once cleared by your doctor to begin exercising, don’t try too much too soon.  Follow a gradual routine until your body adjusts to the stress of regular physical activity.

Don’t let your feet keep you from attaining your goal of improved health!

  1. I have been doing some research on the subject as I think I need ingrown toenail surgery. I was reading a website called:

http://ingrowntoenailsurgery.info and it discussed the Vandenbos procedure. What are your thoughts on the Vandenbos and its angle of treating overgrown skin as opposed to ingrown toenails?
